The truth about Macintosh..

If you don't know by now.. I own a macintosh, and I absolutely adore it in a way any window's user will never understand.

I borrowed a book from the library last week, 'Macintosh.. The naked truth'.. its a really interesting read about the joys and frustrations of a mac user in a pc dominated world.. some things I didn't know till now:

Shocking but true: the very 1st version of Microsoft office was made for Mac..
The common misconception that Apple copied Microsoft's windows is false. Apple was the first to come out with Icons, control panels, the drag-and-drop thingy, the whole idea of a graphical user interface (even the mouse!) back when Microsoft was still using DOS..
Apple was the first to introduce zip drives (the old old, awkward diskette thingys) into the computer world. Ironically they were also the first to do away with it.. (when they became obsolete)

this story tops it:
in 1998 (I was never good with dates, so this may be a little inaccurate) , a test was conducted to determine which OS was more user friendly.. each team was to complete a series of normal tasks; start up the machine, connect up to the internet and create a file in the network, print some document.. (smth like that).. Representing the Mac was a 10 year old boy, and for the PC; A team of 'computer experts' (you start to see how this is gonna end up..)

The 10 year old boy completed the tasks first, and during the process the PC apparently crashed several times. mind boggling? best part; the Mac was taken straight out of the box untouched, unassembled, while the PC was assembled and tested by experts a couple of hours before the event.. and they spent 2 hours troubleshooting the PC cause there was a problem with the printer driver. These are PC experts we're talking about.. imagine if it were normal dudes.. hah!

if this isn't enough to convince you that getting a Mac is really worth while (though is a little more costly).. just think about it.. Apple is the only company in the whole entire world that makes both the hardware and the software that runs on it (the OS).. And that's why the Mac won't ever fail you. =)
